Celebrating Our Besties

On Saturday, October 5th we joined the Finishing School for Modern Women and Lucinda’s Old Town for the third annual Besties: Fashion for a Purpose fundraising fashion show extravaganza!

This fun fundraiser celebrated the influence of our “besties,” raising $1,000 for the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center through admission and raffle ticket sales for prizes from local businesses. Lucinda’s hosted a wine and dessert after party and donated 20 percent of sales that evening to our cause.

The event, held at Harvester Arts, featured fabulous fall frocks and jewelry by Lucinda’s, crowned by gorgeous hairstyles and makeup by our staff. Pairs of real-life best friends were recruited to walk down the runway together, showing off their new looks, while Jill D. Miller, the Headmistress of the Finishing School for Modern Women shared stories with the audience of these besties’ adventures together.

We’re passionate about supporting our community, especially nonprofits whose purpose it is to help women. WASAC’s mission is to educate and provide resources to individuals and the community to “create a culture of intolerance for sexual violence and an atmosphere of healing for those impacted by it.” They support a 24/7 crisis call line, give legal and medical help, support counseling, individual therapy and much more, all on a shoe-string budget.

“What a great, fun way to raise money for women in need,” says Kathy Williams, Executive Director of WASAC. “These funds will help us fill in the areas that the grants we’ve received don’t. This will allow us to pay for supplies for support and unexpected needs of survivors in Wichita.”

Three cheers for our modeling besties, who worked the catwalk with attitude and style. We appreciate the local businesses that donated raffle prized for the event. Of course, we couldn’t have done it without the hard work of our staff. Special kudos to Heather, Sarah, Christy, Madison, Robin, and Lezlee.

Finally, thanks to everyone who came out and supported our event. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

Thanks to Anne Rempe and her daughter for the pictures.
