All of us at Charisma were honored to be part of the 9th Annual St. Baldrick’s Head Shaving Fundraiser, organized by the Wichita Fire Department’s chapter of The Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society (FOOLS of OZ)! We shaved lots of heads to help the FOOLS raise $17,255 for childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation!
This year, our top fundraiser was KFDI’s J.j. Hayes who managed to raise nearly $2200 for St. Baldrick’s! In a funny twist, J.j. who is already bald, opted to shave his goatee live on the air for KFDI and on video for his Facebook fans!
St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events began as a challenge between businessmen and have grown from one event in 2000 to over 1,200 events in 2016, raising critical funds for childhood cancer research. Because kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment, “shavees” for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation show their support by shaving their heads voluntarily, and inspiring friends and family to donate money to support childhood cancer research.
After this year’s event, the total amount raised by the Wichita Fire Department’s chapter of the FOOLS of OZ for St. Baldrick’s Foundation over 9 years of head shaving events is $123,869! Save the date and join us next year for the 10th Annual Wichita St. Baldricks Head Shaving Event on April 6th, 2018!
